Rumours hint at three new BlackBerry handsets

BlackBerry maker esearch In Motion(RIM) is gearing up to release three new handsets, according to an online report.

BoyGeniusReport claims that its sources have passed on information regarding new handsets codenamed Onyx, Magnum and Driftwood, all of which reportedly sport GSM/GPRS/Edge and 3G capabilities, alongside Wi-Fi and GPS.

The web site has not secured any pictures of the upcoming phones, and warns that, while the specs of the handsets are "confirmed", the "releases are not".

The Onyx and Magnum handsets reportedly boast a 480 x 360 resolution display. All three handsets come with a camera and RIM's signature Qwerty keyboard.

BoyGeniusReport believes that the Magnum and Onyx phones will go to US network provider AT&T because neither supports unlicensed mobile access. Driftwood, which does support unlicensed mobile access, could be going T-Mobile's way.

All three handsets will apparently join RIM's 9000 series family, all of which have 3G connectivity.

In related news, BoyGeniusReport claimed that the previously rumoured BlackBerry Gemini could now also emerge as an entire line of devices to refresh RIM's low-cost Curve line-up.

RIM said that it does not comment on rumour or speculation.
