If you want to pre-order a new iPhone 5 you better get in line, judging by the comments over at the Vodafone site.

The iPhone 5 goes on sale in Australia on September 21, but from today you can put in a pre-order if you want some sort of reassurance you’ll be able to get one around that time.

Today, Telstra, Optus, Vodafone and Virgin Mobile announced the cost of their iPhone 5 plans. While plans as low as $30 are available, if you want 1GB or more of data, you’re looking at paying more than $60 – no surprises there.

So, how much will you pay for 1GB of data and a 16GB iPhone 5?
Telstra: $67 per month (2-year plan)
Optus : $50 per month + $10 handset repayment per month (2-year plan)
Vodafone: $60 per month + $6 handset repayment per month (2-year plan)
Virgin Mobile: $59 per month for 2GB (2-year plan)

How much will you pay for 2GB of data and a 16GB iPhone 5?
Telstra: $100 per month (2-year plan) (+ 1GB bonus per month for first 12 months)
Optus : $89 per month (2-year plan)
Vodafone: $80 per month (2-year plan)
Virgin Mobile: $59 per month for 2GB (2-year plan)

How much will you pay for 3GB of data and a 16GB iPhone 5?
Telstra: $130 per month (2-year plan) (+ 1GB bonus per month for first 12 months)
Optus : $99 per month (2-year plan)
Vodafone: $100 per month (2-year plan)
Virgin Mobile: $65 per month (2-year plan)
