If you’re an artist, tourism operator or perhaps a clothing company located in the bush, then the Internet is probably an absolute essential to your business.
This week it was announced that steps are underway to get the NBN moving ahead in 15 council areas in NSW’s Central West and Mid-West, covering up to 25,000 premises. A press statement by NBN Co described many of these areas as places which have “little or no” high-speed broadband.
Before the work goes ahead, planning proposals will be lodged with 15 councils and work will be done to determine the best locations.
In a press release, NBN Co stated that wireless and satellite is being installed in “low population density” areas or where it’s “impractical or uneconomical” to use fibre. The statement said fibre is installed in towns of 1,000 premises or more, and in some cases to towns with 500 premises.
NBN Co stated the first fixed wireless services in this part of the rollout will be switched on next year.
Fixes wireless NBN speeds are up to 12Mbps. Higher speeds are also planned.
