Get a "double-duty" laptop for work and home

The new HP Elitebook Folio laptop shows that you don't have to ditch your brick of a business laptop when the work day ends.

As we explained in our guide to buying a business laptop, you don't need to limit yourself to the business section when you are shopping for laptops for your work.

For a small business owner who needs a laptop that is a: thin and light enough to take to home and work and b: powerful enough to use for just about everything, the new Ultrabook class of laptop is a good bet. There are many coming onto the market, from the like of ASUS, Dell, Toshiba, Samsung,Lenovo and Acer.

Now today HP has announced a new laptop for businesses that has also got the best bits of what make Ultrabooks so appealing.

The HP Elitebook Folio 9470m: it wouldn't be out of place on your couch, or at work

Called the HP Elitebook Folio 9470m, it is an Ultrabook that the company refers to as “no compromise". In plain English, that means it should have enough grunt to run video and serious applications, as well as being reasonably light and having decent battery life.
The laptop's features
The 9470m has a 14in screen, weighs 1.58 kg (not particularly light, but definitely portable) and has a thickness of 19mm, but still offers a wide array of connection types, including optional built- wireless WAN, full-sized Ethernet, VGA and DisplayPort. It also has USB 3.0 connections - so if you are transferring lots of very big files like CAD documents or photos to and from an external drive, it will be quicker.

Perhaps of even more use is an optional “slice battery” adaptor which can provide a battery life of up to 20 hours.

No pricing or Australian availability was announced, although the 9470m is expected to be available from October this year.
